KCCI's Cynthia Fodor has learned that a new steak and seafood restaurant named Prime is planning to open on Black Friday. It will be located at 1261 8th Street.

The owner of Baru 66 and Blue Tomato is getting Prime ready for prime time.

The old Jimmy's American Cafe location may also have a new owner and new restaurant, Fodor said.

In the past, the street was home to four or five popular, always packed, restaurants like Raul's or Fratello's.

Drew Cownie remembers when this was the heart of West Des Moines.

"Valley West Mall used to be far away, Waukee another state," said Cownie.

Now he's opened a Dunkin' Donuts in the neighborhood to the new Kum & Go next to the new UnityPoint health clinic and Jimmy John's.

Scott Carlson who runs Court Avenue Brewery and Americana downtown is close to buying the old Jimmy's which is empty right now. He told Fodor that he used to bartender at Jimmy's and wants to redevelop this old hot spot into the coolest spot in town, just across the street from David Baruthio's Prime location.
